Bush’s first trip to Baghdad, US military embeds throughout Iraq and finally, the emergence of a new prospering Iraq.Tina served as a White House photographer from 2001 to 2005 for President George W. Bush. She states, “I’d covered conflict before, but now I was able to witness the historic decisions which were made at the highest level” and considerers her position as a photographer as “crouching in the corner of history”.

She took her first photos from Iraq during the President’s 2003 Thanksgiving Day visit to Baghdad. And returned as a photojournalist after serving a four-year term at the White House. “I felt it was my photographic and moral obligation, after seeing history unfold at the very top, to be able to continue to photograph the same subject matter at ground level. It was a unique opportunity to witness the same historic situation from various angles”.

The exhibition unfolds on the June 9, 2010 at the Portfolio Gallery.

The Jumeirah Emirates Towers new Kashta Gallery is launching with its first exhibition by aerial landscape photographer George Steinmetz, entitled “The Empty Quarter”. Shooting from the harness of a motorized paraglider flying hundreds, sometimes thousands of feet above the ground, Steinmetz has created an unparalleled portrait of the Empty Quarter.

Steinmetz will be attending the opening night on the 15th of February and signing his recently published book, “The Empty Quarter”.

Curated by arabianEye, 25 images ranging from 24X36” to 24X65” panoramas are on sale priced between 4700 and 8000 USD. The images cover a vast expanse from Yemen, to Oman, to the UAE and finally Saudi Arabia. Steinmetz offers stunning images of the desolate yet beautiful landscape, the region’s nomadic people and their unique customs, and its resilient wildlife that few if any outsiders have ever seen. The Empty Quarter’s punishing terrain has rarely been captured on film, and never from such a striking perspective. Old maps, satellite images, and a dose of Arabian hospitality enabled Steinmetz to travel where few have ever ventured. He reveals in his photographs a true wilderness, without a single permanent human habitation or known point of water, preserved by its harsh climate and extreme remoteness, as well as a fascinating tradition of a hardy people living at its edges.

It was originally an exhibition from London, re-told in Dubai to celebrate the life and work of Nikolai Ignatiev and help raise money for the World Food Programme at the same time. The exhibition attracted a huge number from the Dubai press network and it was covered in over 20 magazines, newspapers and TV stations. Over half the work was sold.
