The “Prix de la Photographie, Paris” (Px3) strives to promote the appreciation of photography, to discover emerging talent, and introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris. People from over 85 countries entered the contest this year.

All entries are pre-screened by Px3 one week after the final deadline on MAC 20″ calibrated monitors. Mailed entries are viewed under daylight corrected lights. Px3 may request digital files or scan mailed entries for official judging.

Official judging is done over several weeks by our distinguished jury of experts. We ask our jury to view the entries on Apple monitors. The jury rates each entry from one to hundred (one being the lowest). The scores are then tallied and the winners are selected. The judges this year included the curator to the Photography library congress in Washington, the photo editor of New York Times, the world picture editor of National Geographic, the Director of Magnum in Paris and many others.

The film, set shortly after the start of Lebanon’s 1975-1990 civil war, tells the story of a young woman who is torn between a fiance picked by her family and a former lover who suddenly reappears in her life.

The film stars Nadine Labaki, director of the highly acclaimed 2007 production, “Caramel.”

Muriel Aboulrouss, an award-winning cinematographer from Beirut Lebanon, is the first woman to actually work as a cinematographer in the entire Arab World. Her numerous cinematography credits include also award winning documentaries: “Refugees for life” and “Lesson in History”, both by Hady Zaccak; She also won “Best cinematography” at the Arab Screen International Awards for “The shower”, a short film by Michel Kamoun, with whom she also shot his first feature film: Falafel (best film at Namur film festival 2006).

Muriel Aboulrouss

Muriel has been working for the past 10 years very selectively on documentaries and films following her passion, respecting the art of making films. Recently she shot another Lebanese feature film “Stray Bullet” a drama from the 70’s a tale beautifully told by Georges Hashem, the film will be released in Beirut by the end of December 2010, also recently she has contributed to the biographical documentary of Mahmoud Kaabour featuring his grand mother “Teta Alf Marra”; both films are now competing in international festivals around the world.

She also has been shooting commercials since 2000 with all Lebanese production houses for many prestigious products and agencies.
