Gerry O’Leary on shooting Emirates Terminal 3

    Gerry-100.jpg

From the moment I saw this image opportunity I was excited….and more than anything as every photographer knows ‘I’m paid to see’ – after all anyone can press the button! However it took me three different dusk evenings to get it right. The first evening, only half of the canopy lights came on in time. An Engineer assured me that he would fix this problem in 15 mins with an ‘over ride switch’, but alas he was too late as the optimum time for a dusk shot had passed. I tried again a second evening…but this time somebody parked some pallet-trucks right in the middle of the image where he had also offloaded a truck load of pallets. Third time lucky….and every photographer knows when they have bagged a cool image….remember when you have a good idea for a shot, stick with it. Perseverance pays, this image won me a number of awards including European Commercial Photographer of the Year….(Antwerp, Belgium 2009)”.

    Equipment used,
Camera: Canon 1Ds Mark 111, with 24mm TSE lens. The camera was Tripod mounted.
